While my little baby-nephew got baptised today, I joined the celebrations for the Buddhist and Hindu start of the year.
What you can see here is Lakkika watching milk boil over the rim of a special pot. At an exact time (I think it was 2:42h this year) fire is set under this pot. And if the milk boils over, it means prosperity for the new year. Even better if it does that within 6 minutes.

The milk (ah well, any milk) is then used to make milk rice. This (non sweet) milk rice is free for tucking-in at 3:54 pm. But not before the man of the house has fed the first bite to everybody at the table (bacteriologists, just don’t listen!;-)
There is plenty of food that day and I am starting to think that my flatmate Elisabeth lied to me when she told me I would lose weight in Sri Lanka 😉
